About

Talkformats have a long tradition in the radio. The normal situation is that one or two moderators sitting in a studio are speaking with callers. The power of deciding, who will when be connected and when the discussion will be terminated, belongs to the moderator and his assistants. The power difference between the moderator and the caller is fixed by the situation. It is a play, the rules of which are specified by only one side. This is also acoustically given expression: The voice of the moderator has quality of studio, whereas the caller's voice is reduced to the frequency range of the telephone.

HASENHEIDE TALK is the experimental pilot project for a new talk format, which is about talking with persons, who have something to say, in their respective environment. Here we follow the conception of the Acting observer. By the “lebensweltliche” situation all speaking is merged into contexts, which are not subject to our control.

HASENHEIDE TALK sides with those, who do not have a lobby. Opinions and contributions are not censored or manipulated in retrospect. Usually these are uncut approx. one-hour recordings, so-called One Shots.

HASENHEIDE TALK is a new form of an open radio, which is based on rules. All transmissions are taped in the Kreuzberg city park Hasenheide.

HASENHEIDE TALK has the goal to provoke a public discourse concerning the question of global freedom of movement and to offer podium to those, who are not allowed to appear in the mass media but as their own cliché.

HASENHEIDE TALK uses the coincidence in order to speak not only with people, who want to present themselves publicly, but to aks just those, who do not feel this urge; because self-manifestation urge and „to have something to say“ are not the same. Our thesis is that the one who is not asked sometimes forgets, what he would have to say.

Themes

HASENHEIDE TALK main focus is on the question: „Should (political) borders exist?“
In other words: Is it fair that rights emerge from papers and nationalities, which those, who do not possess these papers and nationalities, do not have?
This question can be answered in emotional, legal, political, personal, theoretical and ethical ways. It is a question, which children and adults, intellectuals and workers, students and skinheads, residents and foreigners, possessing and homeless people, men and women can answer in very individual and varied ways. This question may become a take off for the most different discussions.

Further theme groups:
Life history and conditions
Social inclusion/exclusion
Life dream/What prevents me from carrying out my dreams?
City /park /Hasenheide
Suizid / What should change? / social utopia
loss / Identity / distinction between self-perception and foreign-perception
How does the recording equipment change the situation of speaking?

City Park Hasenheide

The Hasenheide is a classic Berlin city park, which is visited by very different people. These very different people get a chance to speak without censorship. In adition to that, the sound landscape Hasenheide (music making and singing people in particular frequently happening jam sessions in the Hasenheide, sound-background like barking dogs, singing birds, playing children etc.) plays an acoustic and compositional role.

Rules

1. All recordings are to be taken in the park Hasenheide and its direct proximity (approximately 200 meters). Thus the Südstern, the Hermann Platz and the Columbia bath (summer bath Neuköln) are also included in the territory of possible recordings.

2. We do without any form of manipulative editing. Either we don’t edit at all - and thereby approach dramaturgically a live-format - or we use a mathematical-musical principle.

3. In this way two formats are developing: Hasenheide Talk – uncut! and Hasenheide Talk – Composed Reality.
If it should make sense because of the content or because of dramaturgical reasons to shorten the uncut! format, this will be indicated for example by audible reeling. In this way we do without any manipulation by editing. Within the format Composed Reality only music , which was recorded in the Hasenheide shall be used.

4. Everyone, who wants, can preserve his anonymity.

5. Everyone, who wants, can interview other people.

All recordings can be used free of charge for non-commercial purposes. This also includes broadcasting in free radios. All involved persons permit the use by public broadcasting stations.
